You didn’t mean to become this guarded.
No one plans to become guarded.
It happens in response.
To pain.
To disappointment.
To unmet expectations.
At first, it feels like strength.
Like you’ve learned your lesson.
Like you’re wiser now.
But over time, something shifts.
You don’t just protect yourself from what hurt you;
you start protecting yourself from everything and everyone.
And now connection feels harder.
Trust feels heavier.
Vulnerability feels risky.
Ecclesiastes reminds us there is “a time for everything.”
And maybe there was a time when guarding your heart was necessary.
But is it still?
Because what once protected you…
might now be limiting you.
And the life you want, the relationships you want,
require a version of you that isn’t always bracing for impact.
Scripture tells us He is our rear guard. When will you trust Him and let your guard down? God Almighty is fully capable of having your back! You didn’t mean to become guarded. Now, go live free and open, not guarded and antsy.
Happy Monday!
PS…DM me on Instagram @addiecooley if I can pray for you along these lines and go check out other resources at adriennecooley.com that will help you be happy ANYWAY, love ANYWAY, and believe ANYWAY no matter what life throws your way! Also, be watching out for more from me on social media. I have been laying low for a while but am missing you and all the action “out there”. I have been in a season of writing and being with family. And I have been focusing on the Next Generation in our local church. I am working on some new projects that hope will surface later this year or in 2027. Can hardly wait to share them with you!!!
