Praying without ceasing

This past week I was talking with some friends and something one of them said reminded me of what my mom always taught me. As women, we really have to get the art of “praying without ceasing” down and “living in divine communion with The Father” pretty much at all times so that as we go about all that’s on our plates, we rarely have hours set aside for prayer but we also rarely let even minutes go by without praying.

Our lives are sooooo seasonal. When my boys were babies, during breastfeeding days, Mom would say that I had hours in that season to talk to Jesus so spend it doing just that and make those beautiful 20-40 min segments special time with God and baby. Then came the next season, the throws of motherhood and carpool. She encouraged me to dedicate carpool to God instead of being on the phone w friends the whole time if I didn’t have my devotion that day. Then when my boys were in their teen years playing sports before they were driving, I would be dropping them off here and there, and when I could, would go grab a coffee and sit in a coffee shop for 20 minutes or walk the trails at Cottage Hill Park because it was near the soccer field. I would pray as I walked or listen to The Tord on EarPods. When we played travel ball, I’d hull up in the hotel room sometimes while the boys hung out with a friend watching a movie in their room with parents I trusted. The other parents were at the bar or lobby downstairs, and I’d work on my latest book crying out to God to speak to my heart in a way that would help me and others. Now as an empty nester, there is no excuse anymore and I love my time with Jesus so much and it’s so sweet. I cherish it bc I know in the next season once I have grands one day locally, I’ll be having to get creative again and have devotions during nap times, etc. When I visit my son and his family, I’ve gotten a taste of this and it’s wonderful.

Go with the flow of your life without guilt. Go with God and enjoy your season. Be in the now. Prepare more in prayer for the future than you even do in the natural by praying without ceasing as Scripture says. If women would plan as much in the spirit as we do in the natural (which is called prayer) with our prayer anchored in the Word, so much less chaos would even be in our lives. God goes ahead of us makes our paths straight and prayer prepares our hearts to be ready for xyz so that our burdens would be lighter. His yolk is easy. If only we would wear His yolk instead of the world’s, things would work out so much more smoothly. And even in the presence of our enemies – I picture a war zone we feel like we are in at times, He prepares a banqueting table filled with our provision of peace and all we need to have victory on our journeys. Praying without ceasing is the key to being able to juggle all the demands of motherhood without going insane.

I’m so grateful for my mother who lived this before me so well and modeled it for me to see so I can enjoy the good results it brings. I hope this inspires you to pray without ceasing and enjoy the results of it in your life, too!
