“But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:13-14 NLT
I was recently seeking God about a battle I was fighting and I heard this verse in my heart which I have grown to dislike over the years. { Ikr That’s not what you were expecting. 😂 } It’s the part in some versions that says “be still” Be still?! That is the last thing a problem solver wants to hear when there is a battle to be fought! Let the Lord fight it?! “That’s for those super spiritual people,” I have ranted for years. There has got to be SOMETHING I can and SHOULD always do, right?! So I thought. And so I lost all kinds of battles. This new (to me) idea of 100% trusting God to fight some battles that He tells me to has been life changing. Oh so hard to be still or calm for us “Martha” types but being still is where the happy is! Being still is where the faith is. Being still is where the love is many times. It involves shutting this pie hole and letting God do the talking. His words are far more powerful than ours.
Here’s the cool thing. When I looked up that scripture, I felt led to read the few verses before it and I was astonished at what I saw. My not wanting to be still and let the Lord fight my battles often involves fear of some kind and like verse 13 says, it’s usually fear of us needing to be rescued from someone and what they are saying about us or doing to us in some way. {Not that we always actually do need to be rescued from anyone but at least the fear of it} Can you relate? Reread the passage so you can see how all of this goes together.
“But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:13-14 NLT
So next time you feel like that-afraid & feeling the need of being rescued from someone or something, remember the thing to do is stay calm, be still and let the Lord fight that battle! He’ll do a much better job. Now that I am beginning to learn this, it is going so much better. He is way better at those battles than I ever was. And guess what, I have more time on my hands to sit at His feet because of it. Then before I know it, there is this beautiful cycle of sitting at His feet more while He fights my battles more.
Now that’s a real key to being happy anyway for sure!
Stay calm and happy Monday!
