Does it feel like your life is the titanic and it’s headed for certain doom at times? Or is it just me? Even though the skies are clear and your Instagram shows sure signs of partying and a wonderful time all around, is there an angst, a worry, a concern that maybe just maybe there is an ice burg just ahead to steer clear of? Or actually, there are days when it’s as great as Instagram looks fr fr and you have no idea that “crashing into an ice burg” is in your future if things don’t change.
Does worry, anxiety, or depression loom over head for you right out of the clear blue skies sometime? I know it’s not just me because if it were there wouldn’t be so many commercials on TV selling the meds to help with worry, anxiety, sleep disorders, and depression. There wouldn’t be so many diseases connected to stress. Life hits hard sometimes for us all. And there is no shame in that. But there is hope to rise above. If I can be the happy lady ANYWAY, so can you. I promise!!!
Here is some advise my Christian counselor gave me recently and I thought “Why keep this $120 advise to myself?!” How stingy would that be? π So basically I’m giving away thousands of dollars if only a few dozen of you read this. Just call me Oprah! π
Here’s what she said…..Adrienne, what if your life was the titanic and all you are filling your time with is straightening the chairs on the deck? You straighten the chairs. Then people come and move them around. You go and straighten them again and again and again. At the end of the day if your life is the titanic headed in the wrong direction, all of your life’s work will be in vain. No matter how straight those chairs are they will end up in a rusty heap at the bottom of the ocean if you don’t change roles in your own life and go from the chairs on the deck to the wheel of the ship and make some adjustments in where you are headed. {Well, those weren’t her exact words but it’s the gyst of it.} Woa! Is that good or what?! She basically double dog dared me to take a chunk of time {and to do so immediately} to sit and think about what needs to change to get me in the driver’s seat of my own life again. Off the rat race. Discontinuing to “straighten chairs” on a deck that would eventually tank.
I got a pen and an old notebook that was filled with To Do lists from years ago that I came across cleaning out a cabinet. Even in this notebook I found items of “straightening chairs” I had been doing 10 years ago. Seriously?! No wonder I’m not the size I wish I was and unfulfilled and unsettled lately. And you know what?! I’ve decided that’s a great place to be. Again.
But hey, No pain. No gain. When the pain is great enough, we change. We just do.
Join me in loving ourselves enough to STOP straightening the chairs on a ship that’s going down unless we go to the healm of our lives with a pen and paper and a prayer asking God to show us the direction He wants us going in. If we keep going in the direction of our own ways or their ways instead of “Yahweh” we could find ourselves sinking sooner than later. Let’s get to the healm and prevent that. I’m more determined than ever to stay at the healm. Why is it so tempting to drift back to chair straightening? Maybe because it’s mindless and not risky.
This is a happy girl you have not heard as much from for a while because I got busy straightening chairs but I’m getting back to the healm. I hope you do too and together let’s get this message out to every girl we can! Let’s love ANYWAY! Let’s believe ANYWAY! And let’s choose to be happy ANYWAY this week.
