“Those who are motivated by the flesh only pursue what benefits themselves. But those who live by the impulses of the Holy Spirit are motivated to pursue spiritual realities.” Romans 8:5 TPT

Bam!! Didn’t see that coming did ya? Me either. When I read this in my Bible study time last night, it hit me between the eyes. I hope it just did you, too! I immediately questioned myself and I invite you to do the same ~ well, to be clear ~ question yourself, not me lol

Seriously, this is what I questioned myself on…I asked, “Do I live by the impulses of the Holy Spirit?”

Wait a minute. I think of the word ~ impulse ~ as a bad word almost. I need to have a plan and stick to it, not go by impulses. But actually, that’s one of the things I admired most about my mom. She was always up for an adventure in God. She knew how to go with impulses of the Holy Spirit really naturally. It may have helped that she sort of by nature was very go with the flow.

Just being honest, I’m not quite like that. I prefer order & a plan & systems & processes. So the word “impulse” almost makes me jump a lil. Have I programmed God right out of my days or am I being sensitive to the impulses of the Spirit? Have I gotten so used to the flow of Ministry for all these years that I’m not as sensitive to those impulses as I used to be? Am I as motivated as I have been in the past to pursue spiritual realities or am I just reaching for success? These are healthy questions to ask yourself. I hope you join me in letting this verse purify your heart like it is mine. I hope you will let it wash your soul. I pray you sense an impulse from the Holy Spirit through this blog that motivates you toward more spiritual realities today!!

PS….Did you notice I didn’t even mention the first part of the verse? It’s because if we focus on the last part and check ourselves when the impulse comes for that, it takes care of the first part of the verse.
