God is not a side dish

When I think of the happiest people I know, I think of people who see God, His ways, and His will as their main dish and not a side dish in life. What about you?

I’ve noticed that many times people want to live however they wanta live, talk the way they wanta talk, and spend money however they want to spend it. Not consulting God for His will for their lives. Tithing is not at all an absolutely-no-matter-what-gonna-happen, kind of thing. And I love Jesus but I cuss a little has become commonplace.

Now, before you think I’m throwing stones, don’t because I have found myself in that last paragraph as well. But what I am doing is casting a rope that I hope you’ll hold onto with me that pulls us closer to how God is calling us to live. Closer to Him and His ways.

What if we find ourselves living life with God as a side dish because of church hurt or family pain or loss or some sort of offense, rejection, or hopeless situation we are finding it impossible to navigate? Then next, we find ourselves drowning in self-pity, without the devour rebuked, or in a mess of some kind we can’t see our way out of. Now what?

What I see a lot, is this: People seem to be getting away with living this way until something tragic happens and then blame God and ask where was He in all this? I’ll tell you where He was. He was over there, to the side, where you put Him while you were having all the fun doing it your way. Or I could say the same thing to myself just the same…because trust me, I’ve been that person asking that question before, too. How do you think I got this content for this blog? Not only from seeing others I love doing this but also because I’ve done it, too. We all have.

Ask yourself, “In what part of my life, am I living with God as a side dish?” I guarantee you, that will be the part of your life lacking joy. How can I be so sure? Because He is the prince of peace and where there is peace, there is joy. He is the vine and when we are connected to the vine, we are happy, and filled with life. When His presence is permeating a part of our lives, that area is filled with joy. In His presence is fullness of joy. He’s given us all things richly to enjoy and enjoying joy is my favorite definition of happy.

So let’s make God our main dish in life, let’s seek first His way of doing things and enjoy the results of Him adding all these things to us that we need. Let’s enjoy the joy He has given us, allow more of His presence in every part of our lives and have a happy rest of your week!

XO,

Adrienne
