Who are you? Are you a Christian? Are you a Catholic? Are you a Baptist? Are you a Non-denom? Are you a Pentecostal? Are you Word of Faith? Are you a Muslim? Are you a Hindu? Are you a Christian Nationalist? Are you a Trans? Are you a Republican? Are you a Democrat? Are you an Agnostic or atheist? Are you a speaker, a skater, an athlete, a student, a mom, a sister, a daughter? Are you anxious? Are you afraid? Are you depressed? Are you successful? Are you rich? Are you poor? Are you disturbed by this blog so far? Are you many things to many people? Are you not sure who you are?
Galations 5 speaks to all of this. Galatians 5 answers who you are. In the very first verse, it says to stand fast in the LIBERTY in which Christ has made us FREE, and do NOT be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. It goes on to talk about what was such a big deal then, to be circumcised or not. It’s like now, us daring to even put the words I wrote in the first paragraph of this blog. I felt as if I were doing something wrong to even type some of those words but you know, what? If I was wrong, so was God. Galatians 5 adresses it all.
Our world is living out Galations 5. Will you be one who verse 15 describes or will you be one verse 14 describes? Will you stand fast in the liberty of who Christ is in you or will you focus on your own authenticity? If we as a culture would get our eyes off of our own authenticity as if we are the answer and place our focus on the author and the finisher of our faith, perhaps His authenticity which is found in Galations 5:22-23 would permeate in and through us. What if living authentically which has become so all-important was actually a humanist idea and trick which is part of what has led so many to focus on me, me, me instead of Thee, Thee, Thee. There is an entire generation that has become consumed with themselves and it started with us 80’s kids who became parents and embraced the Selfie Craze modeling it to our kids. Ouch! That convicted me. In one way or another, we are all by nature self absorbed and if you don’t think you are, that very thought proves you are and highlights a blindspot in you. You did not escape being part of the human race. It’s in our DNA to be selfish in one way or another BUT that is why Jesus came and that is why Galations 1 says to stand firm in the freedom that Christ came to give us!
I asked you in the beginning of this, “Who are you?” If you are a Christian, you are born again and have new DNA, new character, a new identity. The very love of God was poured out in your heart and with that comes joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. You have all this inside of you right now and this is how LOVE NEVER FAILS. Because there is no situation in life that you can ever face that at least one of these fruit of the spirit won’t come to your aid and help you overcome. Notta. Nuthin.
How? By us choosing to yield to whichever of these fruit you need in the moment. That is what it means to live in the Spirit instead of fulfilling the lusts of the flesh. Live out of the new you in Christ. Focus on His authenticity becoming ours, trumping our Enneagram, our limiting beliefs, our personality, and even our own human strengths.
Go read Galatians 5 and when you get to a verse that you see yourself in – good or bad – be honest. Look in the mirror of the Word and find out who you are and if you are someone who is living in verses 19 -21, repent and dive into verses 22-26 and even on into chapter 6. If you know someone who is living in verses 19-21 and you so desperately love them and wish they would see the light and move from those verses to the next ones, share this with them. I pray this blog will help in this time where America and much of the world is aching due to so much unnecessary pain that could simply be remedied by stepping out of darkness into the light. The Word of God is our answer. People need The Lord.
What God has been ringing in my heart and head is this. It’s my husband’s mission statement that I’ve heard him say for decades:
Our heart’s cry is to ignite a movement and mobilize a generation to fulfill the great commission in our life time.
He’s also said for decades:
There will come a day when nominal Christianity is extinct and only those who are skilled in The Word and in The Spirit will remain. There is coming an unprecedented outpouring of God’s Spirit such as has never been seen before by mankind and it will spread globally.
Well, he’s been saying all of this for 2-3 decades and here we have it. It is happening. Who are you in all of this? If you don’t know, look into the Word and you will find yourself in the mirror of The Word. It will be the Selfie you ever took! Of who you are according to The Word of God!
