“Oh it’s just small potatoes.”
“Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s all small stuff”
“Get over it. You got this.”
“Suck it up buttercup.”
We’ve all heard these quotes. We all respond differently to them, perceive them differently, and have varying degrees of likeness for the sayings.
When I read the following passage of scripture, these sayings came to mind…
“So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.”

Every part of that scripture is soo encouraging to me. I could pick it apart and study that one section for days… I think I just might 😜 But the part that jumped off the page most was “these hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times.” That just made me want to order a cake and have a party right in the middle of the enemy’s havoc he is trying to wreak in my life at any given moment. There is a part of me that can dig my heels in and say “Oh yea?! Watch this!” Don’t back me in a corner because if you do I will come out on top. It’s that competitive nature God put in me. This verse just cranked that engine in me. Hope it does you too!
I think of when my boys are playing soccer and the opposite team scores. It’s when those guys see it as small potatoes compared to what they know they are capable of doing that they come back and win the game! Good times to follow from that win far exceed the small potatoes of their opponent’s one or two goals that still weren’t enough to defeat us. It may seem like the whole game is falling apart but when you come back for a win, it’s simply that – A WIN! Listen eternally WE WIN! That’s why whatever it is we go through on this ball o mud called Earth are small potatoes. Oh if we could just keep an eternal perspective like that, how life would be so different for us all. Well, we would all be happy ANYWAY!
Happy Monday!
