Many of you might know my mother went to heaven nine days ago and her service was held this last Tuesday. She fought a long hard battle against lung cancer. She is forever my hero. She died in faith. What a treasure. How I already miss her so.
At her service I read these words I had written and would like to share them with you…
When you think of my mother, you may not think of her accomplishments as a career woman though she did serve as the Mississippi President of the Society of Histotechnology, she was so brilliant that she clepped many college courses as an adult in order to further her education and obtain a job in her field that only Doctors had previously. She did this when I was a teenager. She was a smart cookie but never showcased that side of herself.
You also may not know that she was a phenomenal artist with more talent than was ever truly realized. Her sister who she absolutely adored and looked up to so much would often say “Becky you have more talent in your pinky finger than I have in my whole body.” And my aunt is talented beyond belief.
She dabbled in art and had a career in the lab. The reason she loved looking through a microscope so much she said was because it was like looking at art all day being in awe of God.
She loved Him and knew Him like few do. Like my husband does. I remember as a little girl almost every morning coming in the living room finding Mom with an open Bible watching Kenneth Copeland and at some point I would hear a Hallellujah as her eyes would be opened to yet another spiritual key that would take her through her next day.
Her wisdom born out of those times have guided many of our days…. And I believe it was in those many many hours that she laid down her own worldly goals and aspirations and began to believe that her greatest legacy she could leave would be in her children and grandchildren. As untrendy as that is —- Oh that more of us women would make that our focus.
Here are a few practical nuggets of wisdom Mama said often…..
Where there is a will, there is away. With God all things are possible.
Major on the majors. Minor on the minors.
Adrienne, nobody is thinking about you that much. They don’t have time. They are too busy thinking about themselves. Keep your eyes on Jesus – not them!
Birds of a feather flock together.
You can lie to me but you cannot lie to the Holy Ghost and if you do he will tell me.… And he did a couple times.
You are so beautiful. She would say that to me with such conviction and admiration making me feel amazing. I want to do that for others like she did.
I am the most blessed woman in the world. Just look at my children… And their children.
Faith is so easy.
In traffic– you would hear these words forgetting you were even present talking to Jesus like he was really there even moreso than you…. OK Lord, I need you to clear a way for me where there is no way so that I can get out of here or help me find a parking spot. Oh praise the Lord! Look he made a way for me!
Mexican dominoes? Sure I’m there!
She was always up for fun and aways up for an encouraging word if you needed one.
And her very last words to me were–
“Sounds good to me” ….always so agreeable!
That’s what comes to all of our minds when we think of her, how sweet and kind she was. I want to be like her when I grow up. She was the most beautiful girl in the world to me!!!!

If you think about the things Mama said often, in essence she was saying oh well happy anyway. She had a grasp on this happy anyway thinking really my whole life. Looking back now over the years, it was modeled to me and so no wonder it finally sank in. Won’t you join me in faith that in her honor we will live out all our days happy anyway like she did!
Happy Monday!
