Right after high school graduation I decided to look into Art School. As I walked in the lobby, I saw the most amazing display of work. I was blown away. The students had drawn still life objects with pencil so realistically that it looked like the real thing, sitting on the paper. Someone had drawn a cracker, a simple saltine. But there was nothing simple about it. That artist had captured every detail of that cracker. I was so impressed. I also turned around and walked out. My confidence as an artist had just been deflated.
Since then I have learned a very valuable lesson. An artist can improve their skills and gain new ones but the first and most important skill starts in how they see things. How they see the world is really what makes them an artist.
Jesus saw things differently than everyone around him.
The religious were constantly trying to snare him by asking questions. The curious many times scratched their head at his answers. There were a few who began to see the way Jesus did while he walked the earth. But, after His crucifixion, things began to change.
Today, we can see things the way He does. According to Romans 16:25-26 the “mystery hidden for ages past is now revealed and made known…so that all nations might believe and obey him.” Glory to God! We don’t have to wish we could “see” things like he does. If we ask, God will help us to see.
Wouldn’t it be such a shame to walk around today like the priests and religious of old, trying to hold fast to their tradition, and in turn missing out on the revelation of Gods word.
We don’t have to be like that, we can ask God to help us see things like him, to open up His word to us every day. If we allow Him, he will show us things in the word that will thrill us and make us truly HAPPY.
Is the word of God alive to you or just words on a page? If you are experiencing the latter or you find yourself like the religious of old questioning everything on the basis of your tradition, I want to encourage you.
God will give you a fresh pair of eyes. Let him paint, His amazing view of life, in your heart. We can become skilled at seeing life the way God does. Let’s learn from the master artist!
