Something’s missing?

Does it seem like maybe something’s missing? Ever feel like you just can’t quite put your finger on it but ya just feel off or they seem a little off?

Today our staff and a few others got to be part of a church planting course we hosted at our church. One of my favorite parts was talking about how a church planter needs to have the right personality for it, spiritual maturity, and the ability for it. As we dug into this, it answered some questions I’ve had about how and why people can seem like they have it all together and then crash. For that matter, how I could seem to have it all together and then feel like something’s missing.

It was very simple and became so clear today. If you are in a position doing whatever it is you are doing and your personality isn’t well suited for it, you will become frustrated. So ask yourself if you are consistently frustrated, what is it about what you are doing that maybe is not best for your personality and attempt to transition to something that suits your personality better. This is one way you will go from surviving to thriving. Your personality can shift but cannot be completely changed so pay attention to how well you are enjoying what you do. Don’t settle to stay frustrated or feeling like something’s missing. Maybe it is. Maybe what’s missing is your personality being aligned with your work. Life is too short to live frustrated!

If you feel ineffective in your work, this means there are skills needed that you don’t currently possess. I was feeling this way a few years ago and had to gain new skills. When I did, I became more effective. No matter how long we have done a job or been in a career, we have to always be learning new skills to keep up or get ahead. If you want to be successful, you have to gain the skills needed for what you are doing. If you lead others, their skill level will keep you capped also so constantly be training and providing resources to increase the skills of those you lead. You will become more effective and be more fulfilled as a result.

Let’s say you are doing work that is aligned with your personality and you have the skills for the job, but there is still something off. In this case, what’s off is spiritual maturity. Without spiritual maturity, spiritual disciplines will be lacking. This is where people fall into unhealthy behaviors and ultimately have some sort of moral failure. This will make you feel like you’re missing something for sure because you are, an intimate walk with Jesus.

It’s like a three legged stool. If any two are strong and even just one of these is off, your stability will be off. If you have all the training and experience that provides you with all the ability you need to be successful and your gifts and passions are being utilized because you know yourself and are fulfilled in this area but yet you don’t really know God and/or are not fully obeying Him in your life right now like you are being convicted to, then maybe that’s what’s missing.

Which area needs attention for you? Take a few minutes and jot down a few things in the area you want to change or improve and ask God to help you. He can connect you to the right people like He did me to gain skills needed for what He’s called you to. He can highlight to you areas of your character that needs focus and give you ideas of how to develop your integrity and be a person of honor. He can help you strengthen the weak parts of your personality.

The Bible says His grace is sufficient and that we are to be lacking nothing. So trust Him in helping to make you whole in all three of these areas. I look forward to hearing testimonies from this blog. Let me know what God speaks to you about this but DMing me on Socials. I just loved learning all this and wanted to share it with you.

Happy Monday, Ya’ll!
