Meditate on the Word!
The Bible says to wash ourselves with the water of the Word! It cleans out our souls! It washes away what needs to be washed away.
Every day we take showers but oh how different life would be if we took a spiritual shower daily! And when we do take a shower, we use SOAP, right?
SOAP is an acronym and it’s such a simple but effective method to use in studying the Bible.
Scripture – Write down the verse you are reading.
Observation – Write down what stands out to you most about the verse or maybe what God is trying to highlight to you from that scripture.
Application – Write down how you plan to apply the verse to your life.
Pray – Write down a prayer you want to pray to God from this passage.
If you take a fraction of the time in the mornings to prepare yourself spiritually like you do physically, the difference will be astounding! Try it!
The second part of the acronym MEDS is the E.
Exercise – I feel a bit like a hypocrite on this one because I need to exercise so much more than I do. I’ve gotten back to at least 3 times a week but if really does make such a difference! I truly believe it’s the number one indicator of how well we will age. It fights off disease by renewing our cells and is just so life giving. Do something. Walk or swim or ride bikes. Play pickle-ball, paddle board, or find a hobby you like and be active. It will not only help you physically but also mentally.
Diet – I have a friend who sees elderly patients and says if the people in the nursing homes she sees would have eaten healthy for the precious several years, she wouldn’t have a job. If you want to feel better, eat clean. I’ve cleaned up my diet a lot and really do the 80/20 rule, if not more like 90/10, as much as I can. I cannot even begin to tell you how much more well I am. I had gone to doctor after doctor, asked for prayer, prayed and read books about healing. Changed my diet and viola I’m better! Eat clean and watch your health improve. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit so we need to steward them better!
Sleep – So much research has been done and suggests that sleep repairs our bodies and minds. Don’t go without sleep! If you are so worried you aren’t sleeping well, talk with a trusted friend or a counselor. Get relief so you can sleep! If you are staying up playing or partying too much, be smart and get rest! If you’re a workoholic and that’s why you aren’t sleeping, it will be there tomorrow. Draw a line in the sand to love yourself enough to get rest. Even God rested, and much like how trusting God by tithing, it takes faith to trust Him by keeping the Sabbath day holy. Maybe your Sabbath is Saturday or Friday like mine. Take a day and REST. And at night sleep at least 6 or 7 or 8 hours! Be cognizant of what your body needs and give it the sleep it needs.
So it’s not all spiritual and it’s not all physical. It’s both! And both affect your mental game.
So take your MEDS…
