An anecdote to anxiety

Hold on because this is about to get really real. You have been warned…

This past week our family went snow skiing and took most of the week off. When I say off, I mean all the way off! I really don’t remember the last time we did that….probably last summer. The whole week ~ mentally, physically, emotionally, conversationally…..OFF.

Here’s what you have to understand. Kevin and I live and breathe ministry. It’s hard to turn it off completely ever. Kevin can easily work for a few when we are off like at night and he can also play in the middle of the day for 30 minutes when we are supposed to be in work mode. Me….not so much. If he asks a work question at night, it flings me into work mode for hours and it’s hard for me to get back to being OFF mentally and emotionally.

Sooooo all that being said, at the end of our time away, I began to sense anxiety attacking my head space knowing it’s time to get back to the grind. What to do?! I prayed. I thought of scriptures about peace and began to do what I teach to do in my books. I spoke out of my mouth, “I choose to yield to peace. I submit to God and trust in Him and resist the devil and any anxiety that is trying to dog my tracks and cast you away from me.”

And yes, do that! It works and also though I opened myself up to a friend and shared my issue, got vulnerable, and listened to her perspective with an open mind and teachable heart. Her perspective was so helpful.

Then I spoke to my husband about it who is also my boss. And I set forth some boundaries and let him know what I was going through coming off vacation. And his response was so empowering.

Sooooo, above are three anecdotes to anxiety.

1- Rest! Time OFF – realllllly OFF, all the way offfffff!

2- Then upon re-entry to reality, discuss your re-start with a friend about things that need to change in order to reduce anxiety.

3- Set boundaries in place and be open minded that the problem could be totally different than what you think it is.

Check back next week and let’s see how my first week back to the grind went and I’ll let you know then what the specific wisdom was that I received and the actual boundaries I am planning to put into place. And I’ll let ya know how it went next week.

Happy Monday and can’t wait to reconnect next Monday here on the #happymondayblog !
